The Millard North Mustang Band Boosters is a volunteer organization. As a result, volunteers are the booster's greatest strength. Thanks to all of you that have volunteered for the year: Why Should I Volunteer? - The Millard North Mustang band is made up of approximately 240 students with just two band directors, Mr. Rathbun and Mrs. Keiser. They both teach a full schedule and Mrs. Keiser is not even full time at Millard North – she also teaches in 2 elementary’s. In addition there are only 2 part-instructors for Color Guard and Percussion. It is not possible to have a high quality Marching and Concert Band without parent volunteers due to the sheer number of students vs. instructor ratios. We have approximately 200 families in the Millard North Band Family – in order to be successfully, we need everyone to volunteer for at least 2 events. This is a great way to spend time involved in your child’s activities and you get to know other members of the Millard North Band Family. This is especially important for freshman parents so the tradition of our band continues well into the future. Volunteer Opportunities August through October - Marching Band Season: Bus Chaperones: Band Competitions many Saturdays from Sept 18 to Oct 23. Time commitment is usually most of Saturday. You get a free ride to the competition that week! It has not been determined yet, if the freshmen will be going to any band competitions. Sophomore through Senior parents are encouraged to sign up for these volunteer opportunities. Joanie Lillo Chairman. 40 to 50 Volunteers are needed. Bus Cookies: 3 dozen cookies per volunteer for band competition Saturdays from Sept 18 to Oct 23 (note: freshmen only go on Oct. 3). Suzie Lewandowski Chairmen. 50 Volunteers needed. Pit/Truck Crew: Load the rented truck with all pit, percussion, color guard and all large instruments (tubas, baritones, horns, bari saxes etc.) for all home football games and band competitions. For home football games, volunteers are needed at 3 p.m. (yes, some parents take vacation time to be at the school by 3:00 p.m.) to load the truck at Millard North and then again from 5:30 to approximately 10:00 p.m. (unload at Buell, re-load at Buell during the 4th quarter and unload at Millard North). Ten Parent Volunteers are needed for every band competition – load at Millard North, unload at the competition, load at the competition and then unload at Millard North. Parents of students whose instruments are on the truck please try to volunteer for at least one event. Jim Laughlin Chairman. 85 Volunteers needed. An Assistant Coordinator is needed as Jim’s daughter graduated in 2009, but he has agreed to stay on another year! After State Party: State marching will take place this year at Buell Stadium adjacent to Millard South H.S. This party is for all freshmen thru seniors to celebrate the end of marching season.
