Marching Band Show
Varsity
The varsity band will be performing Cirque du Soleil: Ka for their 2011 field show. The music is arranged by Jay Dawson and features four energetic and lyrical movements: Shadow-play, Storm; Flight; Pursuit; Battlefield. Ka is a story about ―conflict and love‖. It centers around Imperial Twins who are separated at the prime of their youth and must undergo a rite of passage of self-discovery. It is about their encounters with Ka, a fire that has the dual power to destroy or illuminate. The story begins with the twins' parents being killed and the palace being burned to the ground. Twin Sister and Twin Brother flee for their lives and become separated until they reunite at the end of the story. Twin Brother is captured by archers and is imprisoned in a small cage. He is approached by the chief archer's daughter who falls in love with him. The Twin Brother escapes and leaves the chief archer's daughter behind, hoping they will meet again. Twin Sister is living in a lush forest that is home to many creatures. She is rescued by Firefly Boy who lives within the forest. She reluctantly leaves him in search of her brother. Twin Brother and Twin Sister face many trials and tribulations before reuniting. They are both pursued by the archers and are involved in a great battle. At the end of the story, the Twins are reunited and rule the empire. Peace and harmony are restored with the Twins each having married their beloved that they met on their journey.
